Corky and Patches had settled on a somewhat peaceful coexistence with each other and it seemed to be a good time to introduce a new house mate, so off to the Animal Shelter I went.
This was going to be the first time I ever adopted a critter by myself and I wasn't sure I *really* wanted or needed another purrbie. All that changed when I saw Amber's sweet little face and barely audible mew! It was more than I could resist. There were a lot of adorable kittens at the shelter, but Amber was the tiniest and even though she'd be going to a home with two full grown purrbies, I knew I could defend her. ;)
It was such a joy to raise this little one. She cost me three nights sleeping on a pallet on the floor before she finally learned how to climb up the "steps" I'd created for her to get up onto the bed! Once Amber realized how well she'd trained me for that, she's carried on her training over the years and now just has to sit and look at me and I respond with the appropriate "trick"! LOL
I know she can jump up to just about anywhere she wants to go, but there's something about the shelves by the computer that she cannot seem to negotiate. So, when she wants up to the top shelf by the computer, she stands on her rear legs and waits for me to touch her thigh, then she steps into the palm of my hand with her rear feet so I can elevate her up so she can walk onto the shelf. She's made it a point to never let me catch her on the shelf without my having helped her get there, though! ;o)
She's taught me many tricks over the years! When she's ready for dinner, she positions herself directly in front of me and sits with tail wrapped around her front paws and stares at me until I look at her. Then she leans in and gives me a kiss - and keeps kissing until I finally say "Are you ready for some dinner?" She crinkles up her nose and lets out a wee "meeeew" and heads for the kitchen. If I don't follow quickly enough, she turns around and looks for me!
